Veritas Hinge-Boring Jig

I bought this tool knowing I had to cut about 42 holes for some wardrobe doors I had made. The holes needed to be spot on and it delivered, I didn't expect anything different really as all Veritas tools are so precision made.This is going to be a very valuable tool in my collection for future jobs, in short it payed for itself on the very first job.....

The Veritas hinge boring jig is a high quality tool of robust construction, which should give many years of service. The degree of horizontal inset of the hinge hole is easy to set via a pair of micrometer screws; these have a 1 mm pitch, so one full turn outwards equates to 1 mm of inset. The vertical inset is set via a projecting rod which is simply swivelled through 180 degrees to bore the second hole. The device allows for very rapid operation with good precision. It does not incorporate a clamp (which would slow things down) but firm pressure on the positioning handle is sufficient to ensure that no slippage occurs. The tool has a number of blind holes marked in the base plate which may be drilled out by the user to provide a template for various cabinet system holes. However, this requires a very long drill (not usually found in most DIY tool boxes) in order to avoid the drill chuck fouling the body of the jig. excellent jig, easy to set up and use, drilled holes with accuracy and ease. All the benefits of workshop equipment in a portable piece of equipment. Very good product for the money, feels very solid like it would last for years (Posted on 11/08/2011)
