Veritas P2230 Standard Angle Block Plane
Preferred for general purpose work, the 20 degree bed angle plus the 25 degree bevel angle on the bevel-up blade, result in an effective cutting angle of 45 degrees, the same as found in most bench planes.
Details
The combined blade advance and lateral adjust is sensitive and accurate. Two blade guide screws prevent shifting of the blade.
The adjustable nosepiece does not extend beyond the body, so that it cannot be accidentally driven back into a sharp blade.
The 20 Deg bed angle of the plane and 25 Deg bevel angle on the blade result in an effective cutting angle of 45 Deg. Ideal for general-purpose work.
The low-profile lever cap allows the plane to fit the hand well.
The plane is 6-3/8" long by 2" wide. Weighs 1-3/4 lb. Blade is 1-5/8" wide, 1/8" thick, made of either A2 or O1 tool steel. It is lapped on the non-bevel side to a flatness tolerance of 0.0002" or better over the working surface, and with an average roughness surface finish of 5 microinches (0.000005") or better.
Ductile cast iron body. Accurately milled sides and soles surface ground to a high degree of finish.
