As the name clearly suggests these type of machines have botha sanding belt and a sanding disc. The belt is mainly used for sanding larger objects, e.g. sides of boxes, or long pieces of wood. It also has one very important feature, this being the actual area where it passes around the end of the drum. The rounded belt surface is extremely useful for sanding curved or concave objects.
Tilting belts are another useful feature, allowing the belt to be set at a desired. angle, or to match the workpiece, when dealing with cumbersome objects.
The disc is predominantly used for sanding smaller items. The backing plate is extremely rigid, enabling the user to easily produce external curves,or accurate angles.
Most Belt / Disc Sanders are supplied with a sanding table, and mitre gauge. These are essential requirements when it comes to rapidly producing precision mitres and angles. However some sanding tables also have a tilt facility, which when combined with the mitre gauge can rapidly produce precision compound mitres and compound angles.
