The operation was based mainly on an excellent manual stock control system and a posh catalogue. The model was successful and profitable and the original promoters sought greater things. The mother company linked itself to a plc, dropped the door furniture and followed a different pathway. This left a few shops owned independently to make their own way in the world, so to speak. Taylor Bros of Liverpool bought the local outlet which had moved from a city centre location to a warehouse in Aintree to sell mail order with an eye on the Internet. After a few years, we merged Knobs & Knockers with our own growing internet hardware and tools business.
