Swan 2 Bar Radiant Fire Heater 1.8kW

Very neat little heater.Plenty of warmth. Cable could be a little longer but that's not a real problem. Very sturdily made.Ten times better than any of the halogen heaters I've had which are not as robust and elements pack in after short time. A good basic radiant bar fire ( difficult to find any radiant fires these days). It is very light and compact so easy to carry (there is a carrying handle on the back). As has been noted, the cable is short, 150cm / 4ft and usually fire instructions note that they should not be run on an extension lead. Also noted before, I expect this one, like the other radiant fire I bought about 20 years ago to be working for a long time without the need of repairs or replacements though it is much slower to heat up than a halogen or quart heater as would be expected. As with my other radiant fire, switching it on at the wall switches on 1 bar and the switch on the back of the fire turns on the second bar. (Posted on 11/08/2011)

People think these are more expensive to run than other electric heaters. They are not! still 1.8kW (units) eectric used every hour.
Better than convector heators as radiant heat which heats you not giving a dry ot layer of air at the ceiling.

Better thanthe halogen lamps as these seem to convert more energy into light which is wasted as just causes glare. (Posted on 11/08/2011)

Excellent little heater which seems to be very energy efficient - we find that alongside one central heating radiator a single bar, only 900 watts, more than adequately gives a periodic boost to the temperature is a room measuring approx 4 metres by 4 metres. Well made quality item and very good value. In fact I am about to order a second one for another room in the house. While I appreciate this is a product review I do feel that DIY Tools merits praise for the efficient way in which my order was handled. (Posted on 11/08/2011)

This fire literally saved our lives. Due to boiler failure we had no heating for 6 days. -12 temp. The fire arrived promptly and the heat it gave out heated the whole room, so much so that we could switch it off for quite a while. This is good quality solid built heater,and does not give off the annoying glare of the halogen ones.My only complaint is that it doesn't have an on/off switch, so it generates a spark at the wall socket.It's a nice change to see something that's not made in China. (Posted on 11/08/2011)

Based on earlier reviews we purchased the 2 Bar heater. When it arrived the handle was broken - very cheaply made. We received a replacement and after a couple of weeks only 1 bar works due to a split wire. This is very poor quality and has been a waste of money. Unfortunately this fire is not to be recommended. I much prefer a radiant fire, and it's taken me ages to find this one, which is identical to one that I've had for years,and which finally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago. I hope this one will last as long.Although it takes a little longer to reach full heat than a halogen, it is much more effective and i rarely need both bars on, in my kitchen.I hate fan heaters as they are so noisy.This is an age-old design which will not tip,or be knocked over accidentally.It's robust and sturdy and very efficient, and I just hope it is still in production by the time I need to replace it!....maybe I should buy a second one now?
