The original Knobs and Knockers was a very interesting company set up in the nineties as a specialist retail shop for door furniture. It went on to roll out a chain of regional shops all of whom drew their stocks either from a central warehouse or approved supplier list. The operation was based mainly on an excellent manual stock control system and a posh catalogue.
The model was successful and profitable and the original promoters sought greater things. The mother company linked itself to a plc, dropped the door furniture and followed a different pathway. This left a few shops owned independently to make their own way in the world, so to speak.
Taylor Bros of Liverpool bought the local outlet which had moved from a city centre location to a warehouse in Aintree to sell mail order with an eye on the Internet.
After a few years, we merged Knobs & Knockers with our own growing internet hardware and tools business. Today, our combined website offers a formidable range of products - over 70,000 items - on a low cost basis.
The website – www.diytools.co.uk – or www.knobsandknockers.co.uk – offers a wide range of door, window and cupboard furniture in ranges from modern to traditional and from popular to posh, with high quality design to the fore and lots more besides!

Quality Value Price Well, it's a bell push. It is on the outside of my house and looks pretty classy. It's not been there long so I can't judge its durability. Actually I expected the electrical contacts to be enclosed in a switch housing but they are not; there's a couple of bare brass bits inside that get pushed together by the button so one could expect some corrosion in the wet. It would be best mounted on a sheltered door frame rather than on the wall where I have it.
It's reasonable value for money and the quality is average for a mass-produced product. I was a little disappointed by the finish, which looks perfect in the picture, but it's reasonable. (Posted on 11/08/2011)
